I thought I would bring you a round-up of a few books which have definitely raised my ‘happiness’ awareness levels.
They are not all about happiness per se, but they all made me feel better in one way or another – and you can’t get much better than that.
Happiness Is a Choice
Happiness Is a Choice by Barry Neil Kaufman was one of the first ‘self-help’ books I read. I read it when I was quite young and I have to say that before then I hadn’t even considered that it was possible for me to change my own state of mind.
This book leads us to question why we are feeling a certain way and suggests that instead we focus on making happiness the priority. There are lots of great nuggets in this book and it’s still one I dip in and out of from time to time.
The Power of Intention
I probably could have really put anything by Wayne Dyer here but The Power of Intention stands out as the book that started to make me think about things in a different way.
Dyer’s quote “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change” really makes me stop for a minute sometimes and examine just how I am thinking about things and can I re-frame the situation? Wayne Dyer is also great to listen to so if you can catch any of his talks on audiobook they are definitely worth a listen.
The Big Leap
The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks is about breaking down those internal barriers we set for ourselves.
This new freedom and shaking off of self-sabotage allows us to live a life which really does suit us best – leaning as it does to our ‘zone of genius’. I also love the section in the book on Einstein Time.
E-Squared
Yes, E-Squared, is a Law of Attraction based and if that isn’t your bag you are probably not going to like it. However, what I think all Pam Grout’s books bring us back to again are expectation. Are we believing things are possible or are we closed off from that?
For me the Law of Attraction is about energy and even on the most practical basis I think that if we are positive about making something happen we stand a much better chance – no, that’s not about only waiting for the universe to deliver, it’s about taking action. But a healthy dose of belief goes a long way.
You Are a Badass
I only read You Are a Badass recently but I loved it. If you need a little bit of positive motivation then this one could be for you. One caveat, there is a lot of swearing, so leave it on the bookshelf if that will grate on you.
This book is really about stopping doubting yourself to move beyond that to success – plus Jen Sincero gives you exercises along the way to help with that.
So, over to you. I would love to hear your recommendations. Books about being happy or just books which have helped you move forward or altered the way you look at life. Please do leave a comment below.
